Pepe Caballero Named Assistant Women's Tennis Coach

PRINCETON -- Pepe Caballero will join the Princeton women's tennis staff as its Cornelia Drake and John Van Fyn Jr. '28 assistant coach, head coach Kathy Sell has announced.
Caballero fills the vacancy opened when Sara Anundsen accepted an assistant coaching position at North Carolina, her alma mater.
“Pepe comes to Princeton as a highly recommended coach, so I am confident his professional experience on and off the court will make him a positive addition to our program,” Sell said. “We are very lucky to have him join the program and I am excited for our current players to benefit from his coaching and leadership. He will be an integral part of our success this year.”
A native of Spain, Caballero had a successful collegiate career at New Mexico, twice earning All-America honors as well as all-conference plaudits in both singles and doubles.
Finishing with an all-time program-best record of 96-56 in singles as well as a 98-41 doubles mark, Caballero won the Rolex Region VII singles title in 1996, was named the L.F. Tow Diehm Inspirational Award recipient for the top student athlete at New Mexico in 1998 and was a Region VII “Player to Watch” in 1999.
Caballero graduated from New Mexico with a degree in electrical engineering in 2000.
Since New Mexico, Caballero has played in tennis clubs in Germany, France and Spain, while working in the corporate world in his home country.
Prior to his collegiate career, Caballero was ranked the No. 6 junior singles player in Spain in 1994 and was also a Spanish junior doubles champion that year.
