Wilson Leads Men's Hockey Past Harvard 5-1
January 03, 2009 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON -- Senior Brett Wilson scored two goals and added an assist as the eighth-ranked Princeton men's hockey team ran its win streak to four games with a 5-1 triumph over ECAC and Ivy League rival Harvard on Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Princeton scored five goals for the third-straight game and wasted little time in getting things started as freshman Marc Hagel opened the scoring 1:21 into the contest on a shot along the ice that snuck inside the far post. Wilson and classmate Lee Jubinville worked the puck low and fed it to Hagel in front for his third goal of the season.
The Crimson drew even on Michael Biega's goal at 7:49 but junior Dan Bartlett's power-play goal at 11:11 proved to be the game winner as Princeton regained the lead. Sophomore Taylor Fedun fed Bartlett on the opposite post and Bartlett skated behind the net before wrapping the puck into the goal for his fifth of the season. Junior Jody Pederson extended his point-scoring streak to six games with an assist on the goal.
Princeton added to its lead when Wilson scored on a shorthanded breakaway early in the second period as the Tigers netted their third shorthanded goal in a two-game span. Wilson then made the lead 4-1 with a power-play goal ay 8:37 of the third from Pederson and Jubinville and sophomore Sam Sabky completed the scoring on a breakaway after Bartlett sprung him in all alone. Freshman Derrick Pallis assisted on the goal.
Princeton junior goaltender Zane Kalemba made 18 saves for the win, while Matt Hoyle and Ryan Carroll combined for 36 in the Harvard cage. Princeton outshot Harvard 41-19.
The Tigers improved to 13-2-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the ECAC with the win. Princeton now sits all alone atop the ECAC standings, two points better than second place Cornell. The Tigers complete the weekend tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. against Dartmouth.
