Sunday Tennis in the City Highlighted by Siow, Pecotic Victories

PRINCETON -- Freshmen Matt Siow and Matija Pecotic won their flights at the Columbia Invitational in Manhattan Sunday, while nearby, the women's team continued play at the USTA Invitational in Queens.
Pecotic won the "A" flight, defeating Milo Hauk of St. John's, 6-4, 6-1 to complete a 4-0 weekend, as did Siow with his "B" flight final three-set win over Cyril Bucher of Columbia, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(4). For complete results of the men's team's weekend at Columbia, click here.
Four Tigers played consolation singles matches at the USTA Invitational Sunday, with Melissa Saiontz losing to Bianca Aboubakare of Brown, 6-4, 6-2 in an "A" consolation match, Rachel Saiontz defeating Mollie Anderson of Penn, 6-0, 6-0 in a "B" consolation match, Blakely Ashley defeating Ece Firat of St. John's, 6-1, 6-2 in a "C" singles second consolation bout, and Sarah Hoffman winning in a walkover against injured Maria Casaletto of Army in a "D" singles second consolation match. No further consolation matches will be played Monday.
In the "A" doubles consolation first round, Hoffman and Melissa Saiontz defeated Jordan Jenkins and Nadia Solomon-Burgess of Liberty, 8-6, before losing to Vicky Brook and Stephanie Kent of Yale, 8-6 in the quarterfinals.
In the "B" doubles main draw, Ashley and Rachel Saiontz defeated Charlotte Ezratty and Julianna Rodin of Penn, 8-2, in the quarterfinals, advancing to defeat Elmine Botes and Julija Korshunova of Fairleigh Dickinson, 9-8(5) in the semifinals. Ashley's and Saiontz's finals opponent will be Jesse Adler and Sarah Leonard of Dartmouth Monday at 9 a.m.
