October 04, 2009 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES -- Princeton sophomore Hilary Bartlett won two matches in the prequalifying draw Saturday at the ITA All-America tournament at UCLA and will play Sunday to advance to the qualifying draw.
Bartlett defeated her first-round opponent, Lauren Megale of Boise State, 6-2, 6-2, before upsetting North Carolina State's Berkeley Brock, 6-4, 6-3. Brock was seeded No. 7 in the 64-player draw while Bartlett was unseeded.
Bartlett will advance to meet unseeded Danielle Lao of USC at noon Pacific Time Sunday for the right to advance to the qualifying draw.
Just as Bartlett defeated a No. 7 seed, she and Princeton teammate Taylor Marable learned that they will be a No. 7 seed in the doubles qualifying tournament, which will begin early in the week at Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Bartlett and Marable will face the Duke duo of Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka at a time to be announced. Four duos from the 32-pair draw will advance to the main doubles draw.
