November 10, 2009 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/10/09) - The third Division I men's soccer ratings percentage index (RPI) was released by the NCAA on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Princeton is ranked 14th out of the 204 schools that sponsor the sport.
The NCAA uses the RPI as the most important criteria in selecting the 48-team field for the NCAA Tournament. The RPI is a mathematical formula designed to objectively compare results and strength of schedule. The NCAA Selection Committee will make its announcement of the field on Monday, Nov. 16 live on ESPNews between 5:30-6 p.m.
With the Ivy League regular season champion to be determined this weekend, the school receiving the conference's automatic bid has not been decided. Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth and Princeton are all still in contention for the title, and there is a possibility of all four being quad-champions. Harvard is ranked eighth in the RPI, Dartmouth is 31st and Brown is 41st.
Princeton is 8-5-3 overall and will play Yale in the regular-season finale on Friday, Nov. 13 at Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. The game will be televised live on the Fox Soccer Channel. In addition, the Tigers are receiving a vote in the latest and final regular-season NSCAA national poll of the season, and are ranked No. 7 in the region.
