Hoppenot Named Ivy League Player of the Week; Earns National Distinction

PRINCETON, N.J. (11/16/09) - Antoine Hoppenot was named the Ivy League Men's Soccer Player of the Week, for the week ending Oct. 15, it was announced by the league office on Monday, Oct. 16. He was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, for the second time this season.
Hoppenot had a career game in a 4-0 shutout of Yale on Saturday, Nov. 14, in Princeton's regular season finale. Hoppenot tallied his first collegiate hat trick to help the Tigers extend their unbeaten streak to seven games, going 5-0-2 in the last seven games. He tallied his first goal in the 14th minutes when he scored on a perfect cross from a teammate. Hoppenot added his second goal in the 35th minute when he picked up a through ball in the midfield and ran up the field to blast a shot into the back of the net past the leaping Yale keeper. Hoppenot completed his hat trick in the 53rd minute, when he knocked in a rebound that went off the cross bar. Hoppenot now has 10 goals on the season and two assists for 22 points, in addition to three game-winning goals. He has scored the most goals by a Princeton player since Darren Spicer scored 12 goals during the 2004 season.
The Tigers are poised for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, with selections being announced on ESPNews this evening. Princeton last made the tournament in 2001.
