This Week's Storylines
Final Home Weekend
The Princeton men's hockey team hosts Brown and Yale in its final home weekend of the regular season. The Tigers have four games remaining, all against Ivy opponents, before the postseason begins in two weeks.
Where Things Stand
Princeton is 18-7 through 25 games played and sits second in the ECAC hockey standings at 12-6 with 24 points. The Tigers are currently ranked 10th nationally in both polls.
The Lay of the Land
Princeton's split last weekend with Clarkson and St. Lawrence, coupled with other results around the ECAC, have the Tigers in second place in the ECAC standings with four games remaining. Princeton can finish anywhere from first to eighth in the standings and is guaranteed a home playoff series, whether it is in the first round or the quarterfinals. The Tigers lay five points behind first-place Yale and one ahead of third-place Cornell. Princeton is five points ahead of fifth-place St. Lawrence and the line between a bye or first-round series.
Splitsville
Princeton played to a weekend split last weekend, topping Clarkson 5-3 and falling to St. Lawrence 3-1. Princeton had a combined 81 shots in the games, reaching 40 on each night.
vs. Clarkson (5-3 win)
Princeton scored four goals in the third period to defeat Clarkson 5-3 on Friday night. Tied 2-2 in the third period, Brett Wilson and Tyler Beachell scored to give the Tigers a two-goal lead and the win. Brandan Kushniruk also had two goals in the win.
vs. St. Lawrence (3-1 loss)
For the second night and third game in a row, Princeton's opponent scored first. This time however, the Tigers could not overcome an early deficit as St. Lawrence used two first period goals to fuel a 3-1 win. Lee Jubinville's second period goal cut the lead in half before the Saints added an empty netter.
18 Wins
Princeton recorded its 18th win of the year against Clarkson, marking the sixth time in program history the Tigers have reached that number of wins. That ranks for tied for third among Princeton's winningest seasons. Last season's team set a Princeton record with 21 wins.
Balanced Attack
Princeton has gotten contributions from all lines this season as 19 skaters have contributed at least a point and 12 Tigers have reached double digits. With two points against Clarkson, Brett Wilson leads the team with 19 points, two ahead of second place Mark Magnowski and Dan Bartlett. Princeton had 14 players reach double digits a season ago.
Fire Away
Princeton currently ranks first in the nation in shots on goal per game with an average of 37.88 shots per game this season. Yale ranks second with 37.48 and Air Force, North Dakota and New Hampshire round out the top five. Princeton has 40 or more shots in 13 of 25 games played this season.
Disciplined
The Tigers are the least penalized team in the nation, averaging five minors for 10 minutes of penalties per game. Princeton is averaging more than a minute less per game than any other team. Army is the second-least penalized team with 11.4 penalty minutes per game.

Princeton remains one of six teams in the nation surrendering an average of less than two goals per game this season. The Tigers have allowed a goal or less in 15 games this season. Princeton ranks fourth in goals against at 1.96 goals per game. Alaska (1.73), Notre Dame (1.84), and Cornell (1.88) rank ahead of the Tigers.
Fit to Be Untied
Princeton, along with Michigan, are the only two two teams in the country that have not played to a tie yet this season. Princeton went without a tie last season as well and has not tied a game since Feb. 2, 2007 at Brown, a span of 72 games. Princeton has only been to overtime twice in the past two years, both wins this season against Colgate.

Princeton vs. Brown
Princeton hosts Brown on Friday night in a series that the Bears lead 78-58-7 overall and 34-27-4 at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton however has taken seven straight games from Brown and has only lost once in its last 11 versus its Ivy foe.
Previous Meetings
Princeton has two wins this season over Brown, winning 4-1 and 5-1 in games at Providence. Mark Magnowski was at the center of things in both win, recording two goals and an assist in each win.
Scouting the Bears
Brown is 2-19-4 overall and 2-13-3 in the ECAC. The Bears enter the weekend having dropped their last seven games since a win at Colgate on Jan. 23. The Bears also have a win over Union and ties this season against Western Michigan, St. Lawrence, and two with Harvard.
Princeton vs. Yale
The Tigers complete the weekend on Saturday against Yale. Princeton has faced Yale more than any other opponent as the team's meet for the 242nd time. Yale has a 121-101-9 series edge, while Princeton leads 46-39-4 on its home ice. Yale won the prior meeting 3-1 in New Haven, but the Tigers have taken five of the last seven games in the series.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale is 19-5-1 overall and 14-3-1 in the ECAC, sitting atop the league standings. The Bulldogs are unbeaten in nine games at 8-0-1 and are 12-1-1 in their last 14 games dating back to a win over Minnesota State on Dec. 30. Yale swept Union and Rensselaer last weekend.
Previous Meeting
Princeton fell to Yale 3-1 when the teams met three weeks ago in New Haven. Yale scored the game's first goal, but Brett Wilson tied the game up in the second period. Yale then went ahead by scoring on a two-man advantage and then added a power-play goal in the final minute.

Princeton is 4-3 against ranked teams with wins over Northeastern (#4), Minnesota State (#17), Nebraska-Omaha (#16) and Cornell (#5), and losses to Cornell (#17), Dartmouth (#20) and Yale (#18). Princeton's next game against a ranked team comes on Saturday against #7 Yale.
Offense From the Back
Three of Princeton's top 12 scorers are defensemen as Jody Pederson, Matt Godlewski and Taylor Fedun have eclipsed 10 points. The Tigers have gotten 55 points from defensemen this year for an average of 2.20 points per game, which ranks 12th among all teams in the nation. Princeton had four defensemen with double-digit point totals last season.

On the Horizon
Princeton visits Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend to complete the ECAC regular season. The Tigers will return to Hobey Baker Rink to host a playoff series, either in the first round on March 6-8 or the quarterfinals on March 13-15.
