February 19, 2009 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- St. John's, NJIT and Maryland will visit the Jadwin Gym courts this weekend as the women's tennis team returns to its regular-season dual-meet schedule following the ECAC Championships last weekend.
St. John's will be up first for the Tigers at 11 a.m. Friday, followed by NJIT at 4:30 p.m. and Maryland at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Princeton placed second in the ECAC event, falling to Yale by the slimmest of margins at 4-3 in the final. Princeton carries a 5-4 record into the weekend after a difficult schedule.
The Tigers began the spring season ranked 61st and added wins over unranked Rutgers and Temple in Jadwin Gym. Princeton was 62nd in the ITA rankings when they came out again on Jan. 29, which preceded a loss to No. 4 Baylor and a win over No. 50 Iowa in the ITA national team tournament.
The Iowa win moved Princeton to 53rd for the Feb. 3 poll. A loss to No. 9 Duke and a 4-3 loss to No. 30 Indiana moved Princeton to 52nd in the Feb. 10 poll, which was where the Tigers stood at the ECAC team tournament.
Princeton defeated Columbia 6-1 and Brown 7-0 before falling 4-3 to No. 63 Yale in the final. The Tigers are 56th in the latest poll, released Feb. 19.
