Final Day of Ivy Competition Sunday for Fencing Teams; Scanlan Makes National Junior Team

PRINCETON -- The Princeton fencing teams are in third place in their respective standings heading into the final day of competition at Brown Sunday.
Two Sundays ago at Columbia, the men's team went 1-1 against Harvard and Penn. The Quakers won all three matches that day, including a 15-12 victory over the Tigers, to lead the standings at 3-0. Columbia is right behind at 3-1 with the one loss coming to Penn, 18-9. Here is how the second and final day of competition shapes up for all six Ivy teams:

3. Princeton (1-1), vs. Yale, Columbia, Brown
4. Brown (1-2), vs. Harvard, Princeton

Princeton is 2-1 on the women's side, with wins over Penn and Cornell following a 14-13 loss to Harvard. The Crimson lead at 4-0 with Columbia right behind at 3-1 and the one Lion loss coming to Harvard, 15-12. Here is how the second Sunday looks for the seven Ivy teams:

Princeton's day will begin with the Yale bouts at 11 a.m., followed by Columbia at 1 p.m. and Brown at 2:45 p.m. Announcement of the All-Ivy teams and other awards will commence at 4:30 p.m. when the final round is complete.
In addition to their quest for the Ivy title, the Princeton fencing teams can celebrate freshman Susannah Scanlan being named to the United States team for the World Junior Championships to be held in April in Belfast, Ireland. Scanlan will compete April 10 in the individual epee and April 13 in the team epee.
