Fencing Teams to Compete in Annual IFA Event Saturday
February 26, 2009 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
PRINCETON -- Princeton's fencing teams will compete at the Intercollegiate Fencing Association meet Saturday, held at Brandeis in Waltham, Mass., and hosted by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Last season, the Tigers combined for a fourth-place finish in the six-weapon standings while finishing fifth in each of the men's and women's three-weapon standings. The men's epee squad tied for first, while the epee was also the highest-finishing weapon on the women's side in fifth. Individually, Graham Wicas and Mike Elfassy finished first and third in in the individual epee knockout stage, while Jasjit Bhinder was the women's epee gold medal winner and Karen Petsche was a silver medalist in the foil.
The IFA meet comes, as it traditionally does, during "championship season" for the fencing squads. After the Ivy title was decided last weekend and Princeton earned third place on both the men's and women's side, the NCAA regional and national events will follow the IFAs once the calendar turns to March.
