March 19, 2009 | Women's Tennis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Hilary Bartlett and Blakely Ashley were winners in singles, but No. 29 Vanderbilt took the other points to claim a 5-2 win over the No. 39 Princeton women's tennis team Wednesday.
Vanderbilt (3-2) claimed the doubles points with 8-2 and 8-3 wins at third and second doubles, respectively, before Bartlett's 6-2, 6-2 win at second singles evened the score. Ashley's 6-3, 6-4 win at sixth singles put Princeton (11-5) ahead, but the Commodores won the next four singles matches to take the team victory. Third through fifth singles, all of which Vanderbilt on, all went to a first-set tiebreak that went to the home team.
Princeton will have two more matches on the second leg of its spring trip in California at Saint Mary's and Stanford next Sunday and Tuesday.
