Princeton Fencers Get Maximum 24 NCAA Regional Bids

PRINCETON -- A total of 24 Princeton fencers, the maximum allowed, have been granted bids to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional fencing meet to be held Saturday at Drew University in Madison, N.J.
Of the qualifying fencers from the 12 schools in the Mid-Atlantic/South region (Drew, Duke, Fairleigh Dickinson, Haverford, Johns Hopkins, NJIT, North Carolina, Penn, Prinecton, Stevens Tech and Temple), five to seven, depending on the weapon, will be selected to the NCAA Championships at Penn State March 19-22.
Men's epee, men's foil and women's epee will take the top six fencers from the regional meet to the NCAA finals while men's sabre and women's foil will take the top seven and women's sabre will take the top five. Nationally, two additional fencers from the four regions will be selected as at-large entries to the NCAA Championships.
By weapon, Princeton's entrants are:
Women's sabre: Lyuba Docheva (So.), Caroline Merz (So.), Bianca Cabrera (Fr.)
Women's foil: Ann Gong (Jr.), Rocky Rothenberg (Fr.), Andrea Oliva (Fr.), Karen Petsche (Jr.) and Lucile Jarry (Fr.)
Women's epee: Jasjit Bhinder (Sr.), Susannah Scanlan (Fr.), Chandler Clay (Jr.), Lauren Clark (Jr.)
Men's sabre: Paul Boswell (Jr.), John Stogin (So.), Thomas Abend (Jr.), Craig Limoli (Fr.)
Men's foil: Alexander Mills (Fr.), Clayton Flanders (Jr.), David Mandle (Fr.), Gregory Kirschen (Fr.)
Men's epee: Graham Wicas (So.), Nathaniel Sulat (So.), Cooper Gegan (Fr.), Mike Elfassy (So.)
The regional appearance will be the fourth for Bhinder while Petsche, Clay, Flanders and Abend will be making their third trips. It will be the second trip for Wicas, Sulat, Stogin, Merz and Docheva, while 10 freshmen will be making their regional debuts.
