Binghamton, Stony Brook Take Sunday Matches from Men's Tennis
March 09, 2009 | Men's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Just one win away from its longest win streak in four years, the Princeton men's tennis team fell just short with a pair of losses Sunday to Binghamton, 5-2, and Stony Brook, 4-3 on the Jadwin Gym indoor courts.
"After a great day yesterday, we came up short today, partly because of
some injuries and illnesses that finally caught up with us," Princeton coach Glenn Michibata said after the team's four-match win streak snapped. The Tigers were missing Alex Faust and Charlie Brosens, usually in the lineup, for both matches along with George Carpeni for Sunday's second match.
Against Binghamton (8-3), Princeton (5-5) won at first and third singles with Peter Capkovic and Alex Vuckovic respectively, but the Bearcats claimed all other points. George Carpeni and Yohei Shoji won at third doubles, but Bingham won at first and second doubles to claim the point.
Against Stony Brook (4-3), the Tigers took the doubles point as well as wins at first and fifth singles, with Capkovic and Coleman Crutchfield, who was making his collegiate debut, at first and fifth singles respectively. Crutchfield, Yohei Shoji, Ryan Kim and Ilya Trubov contributed to the doubles point victory.
The Tigers will hit the courts again in California for their spring break trip beginning Mar. 16.
