Tennis Teams Look to Continue Winning Ways Against Yale and Brown This Weekend
April 01, 2009 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Six days after each defeated Penn in very different ways to start the Ivy League season, Princeton's tennis teams will meet Yale and Brown this Friday and Saturday.
The men's team will play at Yale and Brown Friday and Saturday, respectively, with each match starting at 2 p.m. Princeton (9-6, 1-0) was ranked No. 73 in last week's ITA national poll, but slipped out of the top 75 despite beating Penn 4-3 last Saturday at the Lenz Tennis Center. Yale (10-5) is the only Ivy team ranked this week, coming in at No. 72. Brown (14-7) lost its last three to end the non-league schedule after enjoying a five-match winning streak.
The women's team checks in the ITA rankings this week at No. 47, the highest in the Ivy League. Princeton (13-6, 1-0), which beat Penn 7-0 last Saturday in Philadelphia, will be facing the only two other Ivies to appear in the ITA's rankings this week. Yale (9-5, 0-1) is ranked No. 55 while Brown (15-2, 1-0) has won 11 straight matches, including a 4-3 win over Yale last Sunday to start the Ivy season.
The women's matches at the Lenz Tennis Center (or in Jadwin Gym in the event of inclement weather) will begin at 2 p.m. Friday against Yale and noon against Brown Saturday. In the ITA's individual national rankings, freshman Lauren McHale checks in at No. 99 of 125 ranked on the singles list, and sophomore Taylor Marable and freshman Hilary Barlett are ranked No. 36 of 80 ranked on the doubles list.
The men's and women's Ivy League titles will be decided by April 19, when both Tiger teams wrap the Ivy season against Columbia.
