The Class of 1999 Cup: Harvard

Fourth-Ranked Harvard Holds Off Women's Lightweights For Class Of 1999 Cup
April 25, 2009 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
The last time the Princeton women's lightweight crew lost a race, it bounced back for five straight victories. Head coach Paul Rassam will look for similar resiliency now, as the second-ranked Tigers lost their season finale to fourth-ranked Harvard on the Charles River.
Harvard regained The Class of 1999 Cup away from Princeton by winning the first varsity race in 7:25.1, while Princeton fell to 5-2 on the season by placing second in 7:29.4. The Princeton varsity four opened the regatta with a winning time of 8:37.9, which defeated three different Harvard 4s, including the top Crimson four (8:47.7).
The Tigers will now have three weeks to prepare themselves for the EAWRC Sprints, which Rassam has targeted since the offseason. The Princeton coach has put the Tigers on a season-long plan to get them at peak performance for the postseason, and he will get to see the results when Princeton heads to Camden, N.J., for the Eastern championships on Cooper River.
