Aboff Named Ivy Women's Golfer of the Year, Boukis Selected to First Team
April 27, 2009 | Women's Golf
PRINCETON -- Princeton's Susannah Aboff is the inaugural winner of the Ivy League Player of the Year award for women's golf following her tournament win at the Ivy League Championships Sunday.
While the award is a first, the All-Ivy honor that comes with it is Aboff's fourth in as many years as a Tiger. Aboff won her second straight Ivy League individual title, giving Princeton eight of the 13 individual medalists since the Ivy began its own women's golf championship tournament in 1997.
Fellow senior Marlowe Boukis, who tied for fourth at the Ivy tournament, was selected to the All-Ivy team for the first time in her career. Of the 35 golfers who competed for the Ivy's seven women's teams over the weekend, seven were named to the All-Ivy team, all from either Princeton, Harvard or Yale.
The award is new after the Ivy's coaches voted to adopt a formal Ivy League Player of the Year in golf, as well as a Rookie of the Year. Previously, the Ivy medalist was considered the unofficial Ivy Player of the Year, but the new format can take the entire season into account.
Aboff was a deserving honoree, finishing as the top Tiger in eight of 10 competitions this season and winning two titles in addition to her Ivy medal. She was the champion at the ECAC tournament in October and the co-champion, with Boukis, at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate tournament in South Carolina later that month.
