Collette Abbott Named Ivy League Player of the Week
April 28, 2009 | Softball
PRINCETON -- Princeton junior infielder Collette Abbott was selected as the Ivy League Player of the Week for softball after hitting .714 in Princeton's season-ending four-game series against division champion Cornell.
Abbott went 10 for 14 at the plate, hitting two home runs and a double for a slugging percentage of 1.214. With a hit-by-pitch added in, Abbott's on-base percentage for the weekend was .733. Of the four at bats that didn't result in hits, on only one did Abbott strike out.
The final-weekend surge was a late-season trend for Abbott, who led Princeton in batting average in Ivy League games at .438. She raised her batting average from .143 after a March 28 doubleheader against Yale to .352 after Sunday's final twinbill against Cornell, a 209-point jump in less than a month.
It is the first Ivy League Player of the Week honor for Abbott in her career. In 2007, she received an Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor. She is the second Tiger to be honored with a league award this season after Jamie Lettire received an Ivy Player of the Week award two weeks prior.
