Aboff Finishes Competition at NCAA East Regional
May 09, 2009 | Women's Golf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Princeton senior Susannah Aboff completed her final round at the NCAA East Regional in Florida Sunday with a 73, putting her at +10 for the weekend.
Aboff needed to finish as one of the top two golfers whose teams did not finish among the top eight in order to advance to the NCAA Championships, but the two-time Ivy League champion fell six shots short of the cutline.
After Thursday's opening-round 70, Aboff was in the top spot for NCAA finals qualification, but a 77 Friday put Aboff in a hole and Saturday's 73 wasn't enough to close the gap.
In the 21-team field, Denver, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, Tulane, Duke, North Carolina and Georgia earned bids to the NCAA Championships in two weekends at Caves Valley Country Club outside Baltimore, Md., and Central Florida's Stephanie Connelly (even par) and Vanderbilt's Marina Alex (+4) earned the region's two individual bids to the NCAA finals. Just one player, Denver's Dawn Shockley, put up a red number on the Bostick Golf Course at -1.
Aboff was the first Tiger since Princeton's last Ivy title team in 2005 to compete in the NCAA regional and was the fourth Princeton woman to earn an individual invitation to the NCAA regional, all since 1995.
