Men's Lights Win Three, Advance To Henley Semifinal Saturday
July 03, 2009 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
Friday's quarterfinal victory over UC Dublin by 2 1/4 lengths sent the 2009 national champion Princeton men's lightweight crew into the Henley Royal Regatta Temple Challenge Cup semifinal against Nereus from the Netherlands. Princeton had defeated the University of Bristol 'A' and Newcastle University to reach the quarterfinal, and each win was by at least two lengths.
Princeton, which went undefeated in 2009 and added an EARC and Ivy League title before capping the season with an IRA national championship, topped the University of Bristol 'A' by 2 1/2 lengths Wednesday to get off to a victorious start for the week. A 3 1/2 length win over Newcastle sent Princeton to Friday's quarterfinal, which Princeton again won by more than two lengths. The winner of the Princeton-Neurus semifinal (10:40AM local time, 5:40AM Eastern) will take on the winner of the second semifinal, between Brown University's freshman crew and Melbourne University.
