Men's Soccer Heads to the Capitol for its Third Straight Road Game

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/10/09) - The Princeton men's soccer team will complete its three-game season-opening road swing on Friday, Sept. 11 with a 3 p.m., game at American.
The Tigers hold an 8-5-2 advantage in the all-time series that began in 1976. The Eagles have picked up wins in the last two outings, with Princeton's last win of the series in 2006.
Princeton is off to a 2-0 start this season after a 1-0 win over Lehigh and a 3-2 game with Seton Hall. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 11 in the NSCAA Northeast Regional Poll. The Ivy League Player of the Week junior Josh Walburn leads the team in scoring with three goals. Sophomore Antoine Hoppenot, and seniors Ben Harms and Devin Muntz all have one point apiece. Junior goalkeeper Sean Lynch has a 1.00 goals against average and a .500 save percentage in 180 minutes.
The Eagles are 2-0 on the season after winning the D.C. College Cup last week and are receiving votes in the latest NSCAA National Poll. American defeated George Washington, 2-0 and George Mason, 2-1. The team averages 16 shots per game to its opponent's 13, and has a slight edge in shots on goal, 12-11. Junior Daniel Shannon is the team's leading scorer, putting away two of the Eagles' four goals. Junior David Menzie tallied a goal and an assist, while senior Karsten Smith knocked in the remaining goal. Senior Luis Martinez leads the teams in shots, and has one assist to his credit. Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Makowski has played all 180 minutes and has a 0.50 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
