PRINCETON (9/12/09) -- The 11th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team doubled up Harvard 16-8 for its first win of the 2009 season on Saturday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool. Seniors Mark Zalewski and Gregor Horstmeyer each scored three goals in the win.
The Tigers scored four goals in each quarter and took control in the opening period thanks to goals from Horstmeyer, junior Tommy Parolin, Zalewski and senior Eric Vreeland. At the same time, senior goalkeeper Scottie Hvidt made seven saves in the opening quarter as the Tigers took control of the game.
Hvidt finished the game with 10 saves through three quarters of action, while classmate Henry Fyfe made four saves in the final quarter. The Tigers got goals from nine scorers, including the first collegiate goals from freshmen Tim Wenzlau and Billy Tifft.
Princeton scored on three of its four extra-man situations and scored on one of two five-meter shots as Zalewski was able to convert on one in the second quarter.
