Gregor Horstmeyer played in 18 games while serving as a captaion his senior year. Horstmeyer played in 10 of the first 11 games before missing ninegames in the middle of the season with injuries. He came back to play a crucial part in Princeton's defense over the final eight games during the Southern, Eastern and NCAA Championships. Horstmeyer had seven goals on the season and added five assists and 12 steals. He had three goals in an early-season win over Harvard and added single goals against Brown twice and Navy. He returned to the pool with a goal in a win over Gannon in the first round of Southerns and added assists in that win and the semifinal win over Bucknell. Horstmeyer was a CWPA All-Academic Team selection.
Horstmeyer was both a ACWPC and CWPA All-Academic selection as a junior. He scored 16 goals and added 15 assists and 26 steals during the season and led the team with 14 blocks for the second straight season. Horstmeyer had three multiple-goals games, scoring three times in a loss to St. Francis and a win over George Washington, and twice in a win over MIT in the opening round of the Eastern Championships. He added a goal and three steals in a win over Redlands and had a goal and three assists in a win over Brown in the Eastern semifinals.
Horstmeyer earned second-team All-Southern honors as a sophomore. He scored 26 goals to rank fourth on the team in scoring, and had a team-high 28 assists. He also contributed 35 steals. Horstmeyer had a pair of three-goal games, scoring the triple in games against Mercyhurst and Brown. He also had five games in which he garnered three assists.
Horstmeyer played in all but two games for the Tigers as a freshman and chipped in nine goals for the team. Horstmeyer also had 12 assists and 22 steals. He scored his first college goal in a win against Iona and also contributed goals in wins over UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and Bucknell. Horstmeyer had a season-high three assists in the win over UC Santa Cruz, and his high for steals of four came in a win over Bucknell.
Horstmeyer played three years of varsity water polo at Palo Alto High School. He captained his team as a junior and as a senior and was a first-team all-league selection both years. His junior year he was also the league’s Most Valuable Player. Horstmeyer won a bronze medal at the Junior Olympics in 2005 and was a CCS all-star team member. He also was a member of the varsity swim team in high school.
