Men's Soccer Heads to California for SDSU Tournament

PRINCETON, N.J. (9/23/09) - The Princeton men's soccer team will make its longest trip of the 2009 season this weekend when it travels to the Nike Aztec Soccer Classic at San Diego State.
The Tigers will play UC-Irvine on Friday, Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m., PST and the host school, on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 12 p.m., PST.
Live stats will be available for both games.
This will be the first time Princeton has played either team. The Tigers are receiving votes in the latest NSCAA and College Soccer News national polls after a 1-1 week that saw the team record its first loss of the season to Monmouth. With a 4-1 record, Princeton is led by junior Josh Walburn, who has 10 points off of five goals. Three of those goals have been game-winning goals. Sophomore Antoine Hoppenot has collected two goals, while freshman Matt Sanner and junior Teddy Schneider have two points apiece. Junior goalkeeper Sean Lynch has a 0.77 goals against average and an .800 save percentage to go along with his 4-1 record and two shutouts.
UC-Irvine is ranked No. 23 in the NSCAA and College Soccer News polls. The Anteaters are 5-2 overall and are paced on offense by Amani Walker. Walker has 10 points on four goals and two assists. Senior Carlos Aguilar and Spencer Thompson each have seven points. In net, Andrew Fontein has a 0.95 GAA and .767 save percentage. UC-Irvine are averaging 1.71 goals per game and allowing 1.00 and holding opponents to just 7.7 shots per game.
This is the third tournament this season that San Diego State has hosted, and the Aztecs have yet to play a game on the road this season. The team is 1-2-2, its winning coming in overtime against Wisconsin, one of three double overtime games it has played this year. Evan Toft is the team's leading scoreboard with two goals and two assists. Morgan Sacco has scored one goal and added two assists for four points, while Raymundo Reza and Nick Cardenas have three points apiece. Brad Byrns has seen the majority of time in net with a 1.58 GAA and a .696 save percentage. RJ Smith started the last game against Wisconsin-Green Bay and made two saves and allowed one goal.
