Women's Tennis Heads to ITA Kick-Off Weekend Event

PRINCETON -- Just off a doubleheader sweep of Temple and Seton Hall to start the season, the Princeton women's tennis team will travel to Northwestern this weekend for the start of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event against fellow ITA-ranked teams.
Princeton is ranked No. 45 and will start against No. 50 Denver at 3 p.m. Eastern Time Saturday, just after host and No. 2 Northwestern's match against No. 53 Old Dominion. Princeton will face one of those teams either at 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. Sunday, depending on Saturday's outcomes.
The Tigers have one ranked singles player, Hilary Bartlett at No. 121, and one ranked doubles team, Bartlett and Taylor Marable at No. 16. ODU also has one ranked singles player, Nadine Fahoum at No. 21, and one ranked doubles team, Diana Ivanova and Marija Citic at No. 44. Northwestern has a trio of ranked singles players in the top 125, with Maria Mosolova at No. 12, Samantha Murray at No. 48 and Kate Turvy at No. 85. The Wildcats also have four ranked doubles teams, with Brittany Wowchuk and Elena Chernyakova at No. 20, Lauren Lui and Samantha Murray at No. 21, Stacey Lee and Murray at No. 33, and Lui and Lee at No. 37.
Princeton and Denver have met twice, in 2001 and 2004, with both matches taking place in the San Diego, Calif., area. Princeton won the first meeting, 5-2, and Denver swept the more recent meeting, 7-0. The Tigers have faced Northwestern three times, in 1981, 1984 and 2008, with the Wildcats holding a 2-1 series lead including the 6-1 win two seasons ago. Princeton and Old Dominion have also met three times, in 2000, 2003 and 2006, with the Tigers enjoying a 2-1 series edge.
