Women's Tennis Tops No. 50 Denver, Will Face No. 2 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. -- In its first match against a fellow ITA-ranked team in the spring dual-meet season, the No. 45 Princeton women's tennis team defeated No. 50 Denver 5-2 in the first match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
Princeton will face host Northwestern, the ITA's No. 2 ranked team nationally, Sunday at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
The Tigers' search for the clinching fourth point proved much more difficult than picking up the first three. In the doubles matches, the No. 16-ranked duo of Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable won their match at first doubles 8-4 just before Monica Chow and Rachel Saiontz won their second-doubles match 8-3 to claim the first point.
In singles play, Blakely Ashley blanked Denver's Anna-Betty Kadar, 6-0 and 3-0 before Kadar retired. Rachel Saiontz helped push the lead to 3-0 with her fourth-singles win over Lorinda Boothman, 6-0, 6-1.
Denver claimed the next two points at third and first singles when Sophia Bergner defeated Chow, 6-3, 6-1, and Ute Schnoy knocked off Bartlett, 6-3, 6-2.
It wasn't until the next-to-last match on the court that the Tigers reached the clincher with Melissa Saiontz defeating Julia Bauregger, 6-2, 7-6(5).
