January 06, 2010 | Women's Tennis
PRINCETON -- Going by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's first rankings of the 2010 spring season, the Ivy League has a highly talented group of women's tennis players and Princeton is set to be a very strong team in the new season.
Princeton holds the top spot in the Ivy League in the ITA's Jan. 5 rankings at No. 44 overall with 75 ranked from among the more than 320 teams in Division I. The Tigers are the highest-ranked team in the country north of Virginia and east of Ohio. Four of the five teams in that region of the country are Ivy League schools, with Boston University joining the Ivy foursome of Harvard, Yale, Brown and Princeton.
Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable, who competed in the NCAA doubles tournament last spring, debuted the new year at No. 16 of the 60 ranked doubles teams in Division I. The Princeton pair were the highest-ranked Ivy team, while duos from Yale and Brown also made it into the top 60.
Bartlett was included in a list of the top 126 singles players, ranking 121st. The Ivy League had a strong presence on the list, with eight leaguers making the chart.
The Tigers will open their season with a Jan. 27 doubleheader at Jadwin Gym against Temple and Seton Hall.
