PRINCETON (9/30/10) - The Princeton men's soccer team looks to keep things rolling when it opens the Ivy League schedule on Saturday, Oct. 2 hosting Dartmouth at 6 p.m.
Saturday will feature a Princeton/Dartmouth doubleheader as the women's teams will square off in the first game at 3:30 p.m.The game will be webstreamed live on GoPrincetonTigers.tv for subscribers and live stats will be available free of charge. The game will be aired on Verizon FiOS1 on tape delay in the North Jersey, Long Island and the Washington, DC metro area.
Princeton holds a substantial 36-19-7 edge over Dartmouth in the all-time series, which began in 1921. However the Big Green have had the better luck as of late, going undefeated in the last three games.
Last year's memorable game, played on a soggy Burnham Field, resulted in a Dartmouth 4-2 victory. The teams were tied 1-1 at the half, before the Big Green scored three goals in the final 15 minutes.
Princeton is 3-3-1 on the season and is on a two-game win streak after earning a 3-1 victory over Richmond and a 3-0 shutout over Adelphi at the Princeton Invitational this past weekend.
Junior Antoine Hoppenot was named the Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring four of the Tigers' six goals on the week. He now has 11 points on the season with five goals and an assist, ranking him second in the league in both points and goals. Sophomore Matt Sanner and senior Josh Walburn each have four points with a goal and two assists. Walburn is first in the Ivy League in assists per game, averaging 0.50 with two in his four games. Junior Manny Sardinha, sophomore Lester Nate and senior Benjamin Burton have three points apiece. Sean Lynch has started all seven games in net for the Tigers and has two shutouts on the season making 32 stops on 41 shots for a 1.25 GAA and an .780 save percentage. Lynch ranks first in the league in saves per game picking up 4.57 per game.
Dartmouth is 4-2-1 overall and most recently played to a 1-1 draw with UMass on Wednesday in Amhert. The Big Green picked up wins earlier in the season over San Diego in overtime and New Mexico, with their losses to Stony Brook and Creighton in OT.
Dartmouth averages 15.3 shots per game while holding teams to 9.4, but the goals per game comparison is nearly even at 1.71 for the Big Green and 1.14 for their opponents. The Big Green likes to score late tallying eight of their 12 goals in the second half.
Andrew Olsen sits atop the scoring column with five points on two goals and an assist. Bryan Giudicelli, Teo Larsson-Sax, Lucky Mkosana and Kevin Dzierzawski all have four points, while six other players have a point or more. Sean Donovan has played every minute in goal and has made 20 saves on 28 shots for a 1.08 goals against average and .714 save percentage.
