Nare Wins Ivy League Player of the Week
October 11, 2010 | Men's Soccer
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/11/10) - Sophomore Lester Nare of the Princeton men's soccer team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday, Oct. 10. In addition, Nare was named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week presented by Coach USA.
Nare led Princeton with a five-point week as the Tigers went 2-0. The midfielder scored two goals against No. 13 ranked Brown, something no other player in Division I soccer can say they've done against the Bears this season. Brown entered the game undefeated at 7-0-2 and had allowed just one goal all season prior.
Nare put Princeton on the scoreboard in the 16th minute. After a teammate was fouled and Brown was given a yellow card, Teddy Schneider took the restart from 20 yards out. Matt Sanner headed the set piece towards the goal and Nare was there to tap the ball in past goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand.
Nare had his second shot on goal saved by Grandstrand after a Mark Linnville throw in, in the 30th minute.
Two minutes after Princeton's starting keeper left the game with an injury, Nare helped take the pressure of the Tigers' young keeper when he tallied Princeton's third goal of the game in the 70th minute. Schneider took a corner on the near side and was able to get the ball to Nare who headed the ball in on the far side of the goal.
Earlier in the week, Nare earned an assist as Princeton took a 2-0 lead against Seton Hall. The Tigers won 3-2 in overtime.
This is Princeton's third straight Ivy League honor. Junior Antoine Hoppenot was named the Player of the Week on Sept. 27 and senior Josh Walburn earned the honor on Oct. 4.
