PRINCETON (10/11/10) - The Princeton men's soccer team hits the road for the first time in a month when it travels to Lafayette for a midweek non-conference match at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
Live stats will be available or the game free of charge. Fans who can't make it to Easton, Pa., can watch the game online but must purchase a monthly subscription from Lafayette All-Access for $9.95.
Princeton leads the all-time series with Lafayette that began in 1934, 24-3-3. The Tigers have won the last four meetings, although this is the first time the teams will be meeting since 1998.
Princeton and Lafayette have three common opponents in American, Lehigh and Villanova. Those teams represent Princeton's three losses on the season. Lafayette is 0-2-1 against the trio with a tie against Nova.
Princeton owns a 6-3-1 overall record and is on a five-game winning streak taking all five games at home. The Tigers are 2-0 in the Ivy League after upsetting No. 13 Brown by a 3-0 score on Saturday. Princeton has scored three goals in each of its last five games and averages 2.0 goals per game and while holding teams to 1.10 goals per game. The Tigers have scored 13 of their 20 goals in the second half. Princeton is ranked No. 37 in this week's Top Drawer Soccer Poll. (Soccer America and the NSCAA release its polls on Tuesdays).
Junior Antoine Hoppenot is the team's leading scorer with six goals and four assists for 15 points. Senior Josh Walburn is also in double digits with four goals and assists apiece for 12 points. Sophomore Lester Nare has eight points and senior Manny Sardinha has seven. Seven other Tigers have two or more points. Senior goalkeeper Sean Lynch has started all 10 games and has a 6-3-1 record with three shutouts. He has made 45 saves on 56 shots for a 1.09 goals against average and an .804 save percentage. Sophomore Max Gallin is the only other keeper to make an appearance this season, playing the final 22 minutes of the Brown game after Lynch left the game with an injury. Gallin made two saves and did not allow a goal.
Lafayette is 5-4-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Patriot League. The Leopards most recently lost a 2-1 double overtime game to American on Saturday. It marked the team's first loss at home this season. Sophomore Sean Peckham sits atop the scoring column with three goals and assist apiece for nine points. Sophomore Kyle Scharfenberg has a team-high four goals for eight points. Senior Stephen Macurdy has tallied seven points and senior Sam Feldbaum has six points off the bench. Four other players have two or more points. Senior Andrew Pianko has started all but one game in goal and has a 4-4-2 record with two shutouts. He has made 56 saves on 66 shots for a .848 save percentage and a 0.95 goals against average. Junior Graham Heydt has made one appearance in net and made three saves on five shots. The team averages 11.5 shots and 1.45 goals per game, while its opponents average 13.6 shots and 1.09 goals per game.
