Flanigan Advances in ITA Regional Singles Qualifier

HANOVER, N.H. -- Katherine Flanigan opened Princeton's participation in the ITA Northeast Regional at Dartmouth Friday with two wins in the singles qualifying draw, advancing her to a main-draw singles match Saturday.
The Princeton rookie defeated Nikita Austin of St. John's 7-5, 6-3 to join teammates Hilary Bartlett, Rachel Saiontz, Taylor Marable and Monica Chow in the main draw. In the first of two matches Flanigan had to win Friday to advance to the main draw, she defeated Manuela Leme of Fairleigh Dickinson 6-4, 6-0.
Flanigan's first-round match in the main draw will put her against Melissa Matsuoka of Dartmouth at 3:45 p.m. Saturday. Times for Princeton's other first-round singles matches have not been announced.
In addition to Bartlett, Saiontz, Marable and Chow in the main singles draw, those four will also play in the main doubles flight. Chow and Saiontz, the No. 9 seed in the draw, will face Christine Ordway and Ryan Young of Cornell Saturday at 11:45 a.m. Bartlett and Marable, the draw's No. 1 seed, will take on Daniela DePaoli and Stephanie Do of Penn at 8 a.m. Saturday. Each pair would have another match later Saturday with a win.
