Harvard Deals Women's Soccer 4-0 Defeat
October 23, 2010 | Women's Soccer
PRINCETON -- What was a one-goal game for 60 minutes turned into a 4-0 Harvard victory Saturday night over the Princeton women's soccer team on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
The Crimson scored in the 19th minute when Alexandra Conigliaro found Melanie Baskind, who got behind the Princeton defense and converted on a one-on-one situation with Tiger goalkeeper Kristin Watson.
Baskind had a role in every goal for the Crimson, who scored three times in six minutes in the second half. Katherine Sheeleigh put in a Baskind rebound in the 61st minute before Baskind scored again in the 65th minute on a straight-on goal. Baskind then returned the favor from her first goal when Conigliaro put in a Baskind rebound in the 67th minute. The Harvard junior co-led the Crimson with six shots, and all six were on goal.
Caitlin Blosser had five of Princeton's 14 shots with one on goal, and Rachel Saunders forced Harvard goalkeeper Alexandra Millet to make two of her five saves. Watson finished with 10 saves before sophomore Claire Pinciaro saw her first collegiate action for the game's last 21 minutes and made one save.
The loss dropped Princeton to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Ivy. That equals Harvard's league record while the Crimson improved to 6-6-1 overall.
The Tigers will travel to Cornell next Saturday for the season's final road game before hosting Penn in the regular-season finale Nov. 6.
