Walburn Captures Ivy League Player of the Week Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/4/10) - Senior Josh Walburn of the Princeton men's soccer team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday, Oct. 4.
Walburn had a hand in all three of Princeton's goals as the Tigers opened the Ivy League schedule with a 3-0 shutout over Dartmouth. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award candidate had a five-point game, his best offensive output of his career. Walburn scored the first two goals and set up the Tigers' third goal.
Walburn tallied his first of the night in the 35th minute when he picked up a cross from Antoine Hoppenot from the far side into the box. Walburn had an open net as Dartmouth's keeper Sean Donovan was anticipating a shot from Hoppenot. Walburn made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second half, taking the wind out of Dartmouth's sail, when he sent a header off a throw in into the back of the net. In the 71st minute, Walburn nearly recorded a hat trick when his shot off a Dylan Bowman cross was saved by Donovan but came back out onto the field to the feet of Manny Sardinha was able to put it away for good.
Walburn had four shots, all of which were on goal, as he was moved in the middle of the game from midfield to forward. Walburn began his career at Princeton playing center back.
Princeton hosts Seton Hall tomorrow, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.
