PRINCETON (10/4/10) - In-state rival Seton Hall will visit Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 5 to take on the Princeton men's soccer team at 7 p.m., in a non-conference match.
The game will be webstreamed live on GoPrincetonTigers.tv for subscribers and live stats will be available free of charge.Seton Hall owns an 11-8-5 record in the all-time series with Princeton, which began in 1986. The Tigers however are on a two-game win streak, taking a 3-2 game on the road last season and winning 3-1 at the Princeton Invitational in 2008. The Pirates last win was in 2007, a 4-3 game in South Orange. Since 2000, the teams are even at 4-4-2.
Last year, the Tigers' 3-2 win over Seton Hall came during Princeton's season opening 4-0 run. Josh Walburn scored the game winning goal, one of his two goals on the night. Steven Rose got Seton Hall on the scoreboard in the 11th minute with a header, but Antoine Hoppenot knotted the game two minutes later. Walburn gave the Tigers the lead in the 24th minute before a Rose penalty kick in the 33rd minute evened the game again nine minute later. Walburn had an immediate answer scoring the go–ahead goal less then two minutes later. Goalkeeper Sean Lynch stopped the Pirates only shot of the second half, while Paul McHenry made four stops and a defender grabbed a team save for Seton Hall, as Princeton had eight shots on goal to Seton Hall's three. Overall, Seton Hall outshot Princeton 16-11.
Princeton enters the game with a 4-3-1 overall record and is on a three-game win streak. Most recently the Tigers defeated Dartmouth 3-0 in the Ivy League opener. Junior Antoine Hoppenot leads the team in scoring with 13 points off of five goals and three assists. A five-point game by senior Josh Walburn against the Big Green gave him nine points on the season. Walburn was named the Ivy League Player of the Week one week after Hoppenot earned the same honor. Junior Manny Sardinha has earned five points on two goals and an assist and sophomore Matt Sanner has tallied one goal and added two helpers for four points. Six other Tigers have a point or more. Senior goalkeeper Sean Lynch has a 1.09 goals against average and a .795 save percentage, allowing just nine goals on 44 shots this season.
Seton Hall owns a 3-5-1 record and won its last two meetings after a three-game losing skid. The Pirates have posted back-to-back shutouts over St. Peter's, 1-0 and Pittsburgh 4-0. Senior Steven Rose leads the team offensively with five goals and one assist for 11 points. Senior Brayan Martinez has nine points on four goals and one assist. Ten other Pirates have made their way on to the score sheet with a point or more. Seton Hall utilizes three goalkeepers. Senior Sean Carr has made four starts and has made 33 saves while allowing 12 goals, while freshman Kevin Bonder has made 15 saves on 18 shots in his four games. Sophomore Michael Kuzan was in net for the St. Peter's game and made six saves.
