PRINCETON (11/10/10) -- The Princeton men's hockey team concludes its season-opening road stretch this weekend when it travels to Central New York to take on Colgate and Cornell. Princeton picked up its first win of the season in its last Saturday at Brown.
Princeton enters the weekend off a split of its first league weekend on the road, falling at fifth-ranked Yale in its league opener 5-3 and winning its second game at Brown by a 4-3 score.
Princeton fell behind 2-0 early and could never draw even in the loss at Yale. Princeton cut the lead to a goal on three occasions in the game but could never draw even. Andrew Calof had a goal and assist in the loss for Princeton and Alan Reynolds made 41 saves in a losing effort.
A day later at Brown, Princeton fell behind 2-0 for the second time in as many nights but two goals from Matt Arhontas within a minute in the second period drew the Tigers even. Princeton went ahead 3-2 and after Brown tied it, Michael Sdao scored to give the Tigers a 4-3 win. Calof had three assists in the win.
Calof leads all Tigers with seven points on a goal and six assists through four games played. Arhontas leads the team with five goals scored and Sdao is second with two. Calof and Kevin Lohry have each scored a single goal. A total of 11 players have recorded points this season.
This weekend Princeton travels to New York State to face Colgate and Cornell. The weekend begins on Friday at Colgate. Princeton was swept by the Raiders last season but those two Colgate wins snapped a six-game Princeton win streak in the series. Colgate was picked to finish fourth and fifth in the ECAC's two preseason polls. The Raiders are currently 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the ECAC through six games. Last weekend the Raiders earned a single point on the road in the North Country, skating to a 4-4 tie at Clarkson. The Raiders fell 4-1 to St. Lawrence. Colgate's two wins this season came over Army and Sacred Heart and the Raiders were swept in a series at Lake Superior State.
This weekend concludes on Saturday night at Cornell against the Big Red. Princeton and Cornell met three times last season with Princeton taking two of the three games. Cornell won the first meeting at home but Princeton picked up wins at the Florida College Classic and at home to win the season series. Cornell is 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-o in the ECAC this season. The Big Red was selected to finish second in both ECAC preseason polls. Cornell was swept in its opening weekend at home with losses to New Hampshire and RIT in non-league play.
