Mills Takes Second at Penn State Meet for Men's Fencers
November 14, 2010 | Men's Fencing
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Junior Alexander Mills took a silver medal in the foil as the Princeton men's fencing team opened its season Sunday at the Penn State Garret Open with a day of individual competition before the dual-meet schedule begins next month.
Mills' runner-up finish came in a field of 53 foilists and was one of four top-10 finishes across the three weapons by Tiger fencers. Sophomore Edward Kelley took third in the epee, while senior John Stogin placed sixth in the saber and freshman Philip Dershwitz placed ninth in the saber.
The meet included nine teams from the NCAA's top 20 team finishers at the 2010 NCAA championship, including host and defending NCAA champ Penn State.
The Tigers will fence again at a day of dual meets hosted by Sacred Heart on Dec. 5.
