Fencers Take 9 of 10 at Sacred Heart Duals

Princeton's fencing teams opened the dual meet season with nine victories in 10 chances Sunday, Dec. 5 at the Sacred Heart day of dual meets in Fairfield, Conn.
The victories included a 15-12 men's win over defending NCAA champion Penn State, while the women fell to the Nittany Lions by the same score. The victory over Penn State, winners of 12 of the last 21 NCAA team titles, was the program's first ever in 17 tries since the schools first met in a dual meet in the 1984-85 season.
On the men's side, the foil was Princeton's winningest weapon, going 33-12 in the five duals. The epeeists were 26-19, while the saberists were 29-16. Individually, Cooper Gegan had 12 wins in the epee, Alexander Mills led the foilists with eight wins, and Philip Dershwitz and John Stogin co-led the saberists with 10 wins apiece.
On the women's side, the epee and the foil each turned in a record of 33-12, while the saber finished 43-2 with the only two defeats coming to Penn State. Individually, epeeist Brianna Martin, foilist Lucile Jarry, and saberists Eliza Stone and Diamond Wheeler each had 13 victories.
