PRINCETON (11/17/10) - The No. 10-ranked Princeton men's soccer team hosts University of Maryland Baltimore County on Thursday, Nov. 18 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game is slated for 7 p.m., on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium.
Tickets are $10 for adults, and $7 for children 14-and-under and students with a valid ID. The game will be webstreamed free of charge and live stats will also be available for free.
Princeton is 13-3-1 entering the NCAA Tournament and in the middle of a 12-game win streak. The No. 10-ranked Tigers earned the Ivy League's automatic bid after going a perfect 7-0 in the league. In addition, the Tigers have lost just one game at home this season for a 7-1-1 mark on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. Princeton averages 2.12 goals per game and holds opponents to 1.00. The Tigers take 14.5 shots per game and limit teams to 13. Princeton tends to score late with 23 of its 36 goals coming in the second half. However, the Tigers have a balanced attack with 10 different goal scorers this season.
The Tigers are led by the Ivy League Player of the Year, junior striker Antoine Hoppenot. Hoppenot has scored eight goals and five assists for 21 points. Senior Josh Walburn is the team's assist leader with seven to go along with six goals, four of which have been game winners, for a total of 19 points. Sophomore forward Matt Sanner is on a hot streak scoring eight of his 13 points in the last five games. He has scored five goals, three of which have been game-winning goals, and three assists. Senior defender Benjamin Burton is also in double figures with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Senior captain Sean Lynch has started all 17 games and has five shutouts to his credit. He has made 64 saves and allowed 17 goals for a 1.00 goals against average and a .790 save percentage.
UMBC enters the NCAA Tournament with an 11-4-3 overall record. The team earned its way to the tournament winning the America East conference championship on Nov. 13. UMBC tied New Hampshire 0-0 and advanced on penalty kicks 5-4. The Retrievers are unbeaten in their last six games, dating back to Oct. 20. UMBC scores at a rate of 1.89 goals per game and allows 1.33 per game. The team averages 12.7 shots per game and is allowing 12.9 per game. UMBC has played five overtime games and has not lost in overtime, 2-0-3. The team has also been on the winning end of six one-goal games out of seven. The Retrievers have balanced scoring scoring 16 goals in each the first and second halves, with nine players scoring goals.
Senior Levi Houapeu is the team's leading scorer with 14 goals and three assists for 31 points. Junior forward Andrew Bulls leads the team in assists with 14 and adds four goals for 22 points. Freshman forward Pete Caringi is also in double digits with six goals and five assists for 17 points. Junior Nirvac Kadam, senior Chris Williams and sophomore Milo Kapor will also take some shots to score. Junior Dan Louisignau is the team's starting keeper, with an 8-1-3 record with four shutouts. He has made 55 saves and allowed 12 goals for a 0.94 goals against average and an .821 save percentage. Sophomore Phil Saunders was the starting goalie at the start of the season, playing the first seven games before being replaced by Louisignau.
