Quinnipiac Overcomes Early Deficit to Defeat Women's Hockey 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. (11/2/10) - A pair of early goals gave the Princeton women's hockey team a 2-0 lead at Quinnipiac on Tuesday evening but the Bobcats responded with five unanswered goals for a 5-2 win in the meeting of travel partners.
Princeton jumped on Quinnipiac right off the bat, and built a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Sasha Sherry opened the scoring less than a minute into the game on the power play after a pass from her defensive partner Laura Martindale. Then Alex Kinney made it 2-0 for the Tigers with an unassisted tally at 4:24 of the period.
Quinnipiac would respond with a pair of goals before the first period to end to enter the first intermission deadlocked at two goals apiece. Kelley Davies scored an unassisted goal at 13:43 and Regan Boulton made it 2-2 at 17:28.
The Bobcats doubled their lead with another two goals in the second period. Kelly Babstock converted on the power play at 8:32 and Brittany Lyons made it 4-2 with 17:37 left in the second. Boulton would add an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Quinnipiac outshot Princeton 33-27. Cassie Seguin made 28 saves for the Tigers while Victoria Vigilanti stopped 25 Princeton shots. Each team had a power-play goal in the game, with Princeton converting once on four tries and Quinnipiac once on three.
The loss drops Princeton to 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the ECAC. Quinnipiac is now 6-3-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the ECAC. Princeton is back in action this weekend with league games at Rensselaer and Union.
