Six Princeton fencers competed Nov. 19-22 in the North American Cup fencing event in Milwaukee, Wis., with sophomore Edward Kelley's third place in the epee as the highest Tiger finish.
Kelley was two spots ahead of fellow sophomore Jonathan Yergler in a field of 205 epeeists. Freshman Philip Dershwitz placed 14th in the saber among 166 competitors.
On the women's side, sophomore Hannah Safford placed 18th of 145 in the epee, while freshmen Hyun-Kyung Yuh and Eve Levin took 20th and 34th of 131 in the foil.
The North American Cup is a series of events that allow high finishers to earn points toward competing with the U.S. team in international competition. The Milwaukee event was the second NAC meet of the season and was a junior competition. Additional classes of fencers will get together in Atlanta, Ga., on Dec. 18-20 for the next event in the series.
The NAC cup began Oct. 15-18 in Cincinnati, Ohio, with fencers beyond the junior stage. High finishes included a third-place tie in the men's epee by Princeton alum Soren Thompson '05, 15th in the epee by Tommi Hurme '08, 21st in the women's epee by junior Susannah Scanlan, 19th in the foil by junior Lucile Jarry, and 18th in the saber by freshman Diamond Wheeler.
