Julie Shackford (women's soccer), Josh Walburn (men's soccer) and Chris Ayres (wrestling) join the latest edition of TigerCast.
Shackford will lead the Princeton women's soccer team into an Ivy League championship showdown with Penn Saturday at 4 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium. The Tigers, winners of a 2-1 overtime thriller at Cornell last weekend, stand one point behind Penn heading into the regular season finale. A Tiger victory would give Princeton both the Ivy title and an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
Walburn is a preseason All-America honoree for the men's soccer team, which has won 10 straight games and will take on Penn Saturday at 7, also at Roberts Stadium. Both Princeton and Penn have 15 points in Ivy League play and have separated themselves from the rest of the league; an outright winner would clinch at least a share of the Ivy League crown. Walburn previews the game and talks about the offensive success his team has had recently.
Ayres is coming off the best wrestling season in decades and brought in arguably his best recruiting class while at Princeton. The Tigers finished third in the Ivy League and placed its first EIWA finalist in freshman Garrett Frey. Princeton opens its season in two weeks and will make its home debut Dec. 3 in a quad meet against Liberty, Bighamton and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Ayres gives his early thoughts on the preseason and the increased expectations of his program.
