Pallis and Ammon Claim ECAC Weekly Awards Following Weekend Sweep
December 14, 2010 | Men's Ice Hockey
Pallis was one of two Tigers to record four points in the two-game sweep of the River Hawks. He totaled two goals and two assists in the two games, was +5 for the weekend and was on the ice for seven of Princeton's 12 goals scored. On Friday Pallis had two assists, notching the primary helper on Princeton's first goal scored by Jack Berger, and then had an assist on Ammon's game-winning goal with seven minutes left in the game. A day later, Pallis gave Princeton a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal in the first period and then tallied the team's sixth goal early in the third period.
The award is the first of Pallis' career and he is just the second defenseman to win the league's Player of the Week award in the last two seasons. RPI's Nick Bailen won the award on Nov. 16. Before that the last defender to win was St. Lawrence's Zach Miskovic in October of 2008.
Ammon led all Tigers with three goals over the weekend and he scored all three in a span 6:32 in the final seven minutes of Friday's win over UMass Lowell. Ammon netted his first goal with exactly seven minutes left to play when Taylor Fedun sprung him on a breakaway and he scored through the goalie's five-hole for his first collegiate tally. He struck again 2:43 later on the power play and completed the natural hat trick in the game's final minute with a shorthanded empty-net goal after a great defensive play from Kevin Lohry. It was Princeton's first hat trick since January of last season when Eric Meland had one against Connecticut.
Pallis, Ammon and the Tigers finished the first part of the season winners of eight of their last 10 and their last three. Princeton is currently 8-5-0 overall and 6-3-0 in ECAC Hockey entering the Holiday Break. Princeton is back in action on Dec. 29-30 at the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic. Princeton opens the tournament on the 29th against Bowling Green of the CCHA.
