Select Fencers to Compete in NAC Atlanta Event This Weekend
December 16, 2010 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
As many as 12 Princeton fencers will compete in the North American Cup event in Atlanta this weekend, taking part in an individual event that awards points for high finishes toward representing the U.S. in international competition.
All six weapons are scheduled to have Princeton representation, with the Tiger fencers dueling among anywhere from several dozen to almost 200 competitors in each weapon.
The event will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center, which hosted the fencing competition at the 1996 Olympic Games.
Sophomore Hannah Safford and junior Susannah Scanlan are registered to compete in the women's epee, as are juniors Lucile Jarry, Andrea Oliva and Rocky Rothenberg and freshmen Ambika Singh and Hyun-Kyung Yuh in the foil. Freshman Diamond Wheeler is scheduled to compete in the saber.
The men's list includes sophomores Edward Kelley and Jonathan Yergler in the epee, fellow sophomore Robert Malcolm in the foil, and freshman Philip Dershwitz in the saber.
Among the Princeton alumni scheduled to compete are Tommi Hurme '08 and Soren Thompson '05, both epeeists.
Competition in men's epee and women's foil will take place Saturday, with men's foil and women's saber Sunday and men's saber and women's epee Monday.
Tournament organizers will be posting results here.
