Lohry Scores Twice as Men's Hockey Rallies Past Bowling Green

STORRS, Conn. (12/29/10) - Kevin Lohry scored two goals and added an assist as the Princeton men's hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Bowling Green 4-2 in the opening game of the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic. Trailing by a goal in the final 10 minutes, Princeton scored three times to pull out the win.
After a scoreless first period that saw each team have good moments, Bowling Green broke the deadlock with two goals in the first part of the second period. Ryan Viselli banked a shot past Mike Condon 1:19 into the stanza and Chad Sumsion scored on a rebound on the power play at 7:30.
Momentum began to swing in Princeton's favor midway through the period. Although unable to convert Princeton had a good power play and scored at the 10:00 mark when Lohry notched his fourth of the year on a blast that beat Bowling Green netminder Nick Eno over the shoulder. The goal was assisted by Taylor Fedun and Derrick Pallis.
Princeton continued to pressure but couldn't draw even in the remaining half of the second period and entered the third period still down by a goal.
The Tigers finally drew even just past the midway point of the third period when Lohry scored on a similar play at the 10:58 mark off assists from Michael Sdao and Will MacDonald. Immediately following the goal Sdao collided with Eno setting up a chippy final half of the period. Sdao was whistled for a penalty on the play, along with Falcon Jake Sloat on the play and the teams skated four aside. The incident also marked the end of the game for Eno who left with an injury.
The teams skated four aside until Sdao and Sloat returned to the ice. The first face-off following their return, Sdao and Max Grover dropped the gloves and removed their helmets to fight. The referees did not allow the two to go at it, but both were assessed fighting majors and game disqualifications, which will make them unable to play in tomorrow's games.
Also as a result of the fight, the referees called the final seven minutes much more closely and most of that time was played on special teams. Princeton took advantage of those situations and went ahead at the 14:50 mark on a 5 on 3 power-play goal from Derrick Pallis that set up by Lohry and Andrew Calof.
The Tigers then got an insurance goal 33 seconds later as the speed of Andrew Ammon resulted in his fourth goal. Brodie Zuk won a defensive zone draw and chipped the puck out of the zone and Ammon chased it down and scored on the backhand.
Condon made 27 saves for the win while Andrew Hammond took the loss in relief with two saves on four shots. Eno stopped 28 shots. Princeton outshot Bowling Green 34-29.
Princeton improves to 9-5 overall and will play for its first inseason tournament title since the 1997-98 season tomorrow at 7:15 against Connecticut in the championship game.
