Vote Hoppenot as Soccer News Net Player of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/6/10) - Princeton junior Antoine Hoppenot is one of thirty Division I soccer players from around the nation nominated for the Soccer News Net Player of the Year Award. Online fan polling closes on December 23, 2010 and determines 40% of the total vote, with the remaining 60% coming from the Soccer News Net editorial staff.

Hoppenot is also a semifinalist for the 2010 Hermann Trophy Award, presented to the best collegiate soccer player in the nation. The 2010 Ivy League Player of the Year led the league in goals and points scored. He finished the season with 23 points off of nine goals and five assists to sit atop the scoring column for the Tigers. Hoppenot earned a point in 11 of Princeton's 18 games, and tallied two game winners, including the goal that would give Prineton the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in a 2-1 win over Penn. The Tigers ran the tables in the Ivy League with a perfect 7-0 record with 3-0 wins over both Dartmouth and Brown. Princeton finished the regular season winning 12 consecutive games and ended with a 13-4-1 overall record, the longest winning streak and most wins in program history.
The winner of the Soccer News Net Player of the Year will be announced in January.
About the Soccer News Net Player of the Year AwardThe editors of each of the six sites in the Soccer News Net network nominated up to six local players for the award, each of which are eligible for the regional player of the year award. The nominations included athletes playing at colleges within each site's coverage area, as well as athletes from the area playing collegiately elsewhere in the country. A dozen additional at-large selections rounded out the nominations.
