Wrestling Prepares For Jersey Trio, Including Home Match With Rider Sunday
December 09, 2010 | Wrestling
The Princeton wrestling team will be looking for its first win of the 2010-11 season this weekend when it takes on a trio of opponents, including a Sunday home match with Rider. The Tigers will begin the weekend with a pair of matches at Rutgers, including a 3 p.m. match with George Mason.
The Tigers opened their dual meet portion of the schedule with a pair of home losses to Liberty and Binghamton last weekend, although there were several impressive performances during the weekend. Sophomore Garrett Frey, who moved to No. 11 in the latest InterMat rankings at 125 pounds, earned wins by pin and technicall fall, while classmate Zach Bintliff hit a late five-point move to rally past former NCAA qualifier Anwar Goeres of Binghamton 9-5.
Following Sunday's home match with Rider, Princeton won't return to Dillon Gym until Feb. 5, when it opens its Ivy League season with a 10 a.m. match against Harvard and a 3 p.m. match with Brown.
This weekend opens against George Mason, which is 0-7 on the season. The Patriots recently went 0-3 at the Northeast Duals, including a 40-6 loss to Columbia.
Princeton will take on No. 13 Rutgers at 7 p.m. Junior Daniel Kolodzik, then wrestling at 149 pounds, was the lone Tiger winner last year in a 34-3 loss to the Scarlet Knights. Current Princeton 149-pound starter Brandon Rolnick will have his hands full this season, as Rutgers starts fifth-ranked sophomore Mario Mason at that weight.
The Tigers will be looking to avenge a tight 24-13 loss to Rider last season when the two teams meet at Dillon Sunday at 1. Both Luis Ramos and Travis Erdman picked up close wins for Princeton, but it wasn't enough for the road victory.
