Fencers Get Four Top-10 Wins at Northwestern Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Princeton's fencing teams picked up victories over four fellow top-10 teams among 21 victories over the weekend at the two-day Northwestern Duals event.
Saturday saw the men's team, ranked No. 4 in the USFCA poll released Jan. 20, finished 4-2 with wins over North Carolina, Detroit, Stanford and Lawrence and the two losses to No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 3 Ohio State. The women, ranked No. 9 in the latest poll, went 6-1, defeating No. 5 Northwestern, UC San Diego, Caltech, Cleveland State, Detroit and Wayne State with the loss coming to No. 2 Notre Dame.
Sunday, Princeton's men went 5-0, defeating No. 10 Duke, Cleveland State, UC San Diego, Caltech and Johns Hopkins. The women picked up two more big victories on their way to 8-0 on the day, defeating No. 6 Ohio State and No. 7 Temple along with Duke, Fairleigh Dickinson, North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Stanford and Lawrence.
Between the two days, Princeton's men finished 9-2 to improve their record to 14-3 on the season, while the women went 14-1 to move to 18-3 on the season. Next weekend, the Tigers will host the four other fencing programs in New Jersey, including Fairleigh Dickinson, Drew, Stevens Tech and NJIT in a multi-team dual meet.
