Women's Squash Tops Middlebury To Complete Sweep Weekend
February 01, 2010 | Women's Squash
With wins at the top eight positions, the Princeton women's squash team completed a perfect home weekend with an 8-1 win over Middlebury College. Freshman Julie Cerullo claimed a 3-0 win at the No. 1 position, while reserves Clare Kuensell and Daphne Rein-Weston also earned victories.
After an exhausting and emotional 5-4 win over the fourth-ranked Yale Bulldogs, Princeton head coach Gail Ramsay gave a handful of her veterans a day off. That didn't stop the rest of her normal starters from an impressive showing, including senior tri-captain Kaitlin Sennatt, who followed Saturday's 3-2 comeback thriller with a 3-0 win over Avery Tilney at the No. 2 position. Both Nikki Sequeira and Katie Giovinazzo bounced back from Saturday losses for impressive 3-0 wins, and freshman Casey Cortes rode the momentum of her stunning 3-2 win with a 3-0 victory at No. 5.
Both Kuensell and Rein-Weston jumped into the lineup at the 7 and 8 positions and earned 3-0 victories.
Princeton will head to Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend with hopes of claiming a share of the Ivy League title. The Tigers would need Harvard to defeat Penn Saturday and then Princeton would need to sweep both to clinch a share of the title, its third in four years.
