February 14, 2010 | Women's Tennis
BOSTON, Mass. -- With wins at first, second, fourth and fifth singles, Harvard rallied to defeat the Princeton women's tennis team 4-2 Sunday morning in a consolation match to close the ECAC tournament.
Princeton won its opening match at the event 7-0 over Columbia Friday but was sent into the consolation round with a 4-3 upset loss to Dartmouth.
The Tigers took the doubles point with wins by Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable at first doubles and Sarah Hoffman and Melissa Saiontz at third doubles. Only one more point came Princeton's way, however, when Blakely Ashley won at sixth singles while Harvard took victories at first, second, fourth and fifth. Rachel Saiontz's match at third singles went unfinished after Harvard clinched the team match.
Princeton will return to Jadwin Gym for two days of dual-meet competition next weekend, hosting current No. 19 Vanderbilt Saturday at 12 p.m. and Syracuse Sunday at 11 a.m. New ITA team and individual rankings will be out Thursday.
