Junior Olympics: Stone Wins Saber Gold

Freshman saberst Eliza Stone won a gold medal ahead of 111 competitors at the Junior Olympics in Memphis, Tenn., Saturday.
Stone is one of eight Princeton fencers at the event, which is for those under 20 years of age. In the same junior saber competition, freshman Joanna Cichomski finished 13th.
Two Princeton men's fencers also placed highly in their event Saturday, with freshmen epeeists Edward Kelley and Jonathan Yergler finishing eighth and 29th, respectively, in a field of 208 competitors.
During Sunday's competition, freshman Hannah Safford tied for third of 172 competitors in the women's epee, while Phoebe Caldwell placed 27th in the same event.
Lucile Jarry closed the competition with a 36th-place finish of 145 women's foilists.
Princeton's next team competition will be Sunday, Feb. 21, at Cornell for the first of two Ivy round-robin weekends.
