Wrestling Team Places Trio On 2010 All-Ivy Squad
February 25, 2010 | Wrestling
After earning one All-Ivy honor in the last four years combined, the growth of the Princeton wrestling program was evident once again when the Ivy League announced its 2010 all-league honorees Thursday. Three Princeton wrestlers received honors, including a pair of second-team selections in sophomore Daniel Kolodzik (149) and senior Danny Scotton (157).
Joining that duo on the 2010 All-Ivy team is freshman Garrett Frey, Princeton's winningest wrestler this season, who earned All-Ivy honorable mention at 125.
Princeton had not had a second-team All-Ivy selection since Jake Butler (197) following the 2005 season, but both Kolodzik and Scotton posted 4-1 records within the league to claim second-team honors. Kolodzik won 11 matches on the season, but he ended the year with six wins in his final seven bouts, including a 19-2 technical fall against Penn and major decisions against both Harvard and Columbia. His only loss came to Cornell's Corey Manson, the unanimous first-team selection.
Scotton won a career-best 15 matches this season, including each of his last five. He hasn't lost since falling to Harvard's J.P. O'Connor, the top-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds, and he was the only Princeton wrestler to score a victory over Ivy League champion Cornell in the dual season. Scotton had several thrilling wins, including late victories over both Brown and Columbia.
Frey leads Princeton with 24 wins on the season and claimed the team's only individual tournament title at the season-opening Binghamton Open.
